Children have certain fundamental rights, including access to health, education, and social services. One of the social services provided to children is access to libraries specifically designed for them. Libraries are available to all children without cost and provide equal opportunities to use their resources. Therefore, it is essential to examine the qualities and content of the resources that libraries provide for children. This research aims to examine preschool picture books in the children’s sections of children's libraries and local public libraries in Ankara according to their types. This descriptive study design, the study utilizes document analysis. In the children's sections of six children's libraries in Ankara, 6,031 picture books aimed at preschoolers constitute the sample group. The study showed that Modern Fantasy and Realistic Fiction comprised 84.53% of the 6,031 children's books examined, while the remaining 15.47% fell into nine other categories. Children must get to know and interact with a variety of literature. Therefore, it is recommended that children's libraries diversify the types of children's books. Existing studies indicate a lack of research on suitable preschool book types available in public libraries. Understanding book categories is particularly important for librarians to effectively guide children and families using libraries. Consequently, subsequent research should design descriptive and intervention studies, while fostering collaboration among educators, librarians, and scholars to enhance library accessibility and inclusiveness.
