Perspectives of social studies teachers on global issues

Bu nitel araştırma, Denizli’nin farklı sosyo-ekonomik ve kültürel yapıya sahip ortaokullarında görev yapan gönüllü sekiz sosyal bilgiler öğretmeninin küresel düzeydeki sorunlara ilişkin düşüncelerini ve bu düşüncelerini derslerine nasıl yansıttıklarını ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Veri toplamak için yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler tema, kategoriler ve kodları içeren tablo şeklinde sunulmuş ve öğretmenlerin konuya ilişkin düşüncelerine doğrudan alıntılarla yer verilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre küresel düzeydeki sorunlar; “Doğaya İlişkin Sorunlar, Bilişime İlişkin Sorunlar, Siyasete İlişkin Sorunlar, Ekonomiye İlişkin Sorunlar, Sağlığa İlişkin Sorunlar” ve “Popüler Kültüre İlişkin Sorunlar” kategorileri altında toplanmıştır. Öğretmenlerin bu sorunlara ilişkin öğrencilerinin dikkatlerini çekebilmek için sınıf içinde farklı bilinçlendirme çalışmaları yaptığı belirlenmiştir. Tüm bu kategorileri destekleyen öğretmen görüşleri incelendiğinde sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin küresel sorunları birçok boyuttan dile getirdiği fakat eğitim, ırkçılık, savaşlar, sömürgecilik, insan hakları, aile içi şiddet, nükleer enerji ve kullanımı, nesli tükenen hayvanlar ve ozon tabakasının delinmesi gibi küresel düzeydeki sorunları dile getirmediği bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin literatürden farklı olarak çocuk işçiliğine, bilişime ve popüler kültüre ilişkin sorunları da küresel düzeyde sorunlar olarak ifade ettiği tespit edilmiştir.
