Research and Publication Ethics

Pedagogical Perspective adheres to the ethical principles, policies, and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We expect all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher— to comply with the following responsibilities.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Originality and Submission Policy

  • Only original and unpublished works are accepted.
  • Manuscripts must not be under review
  • Submissions derived from unpublished theses or dissertations (not publicly archived) are considered original; authors must disclose this clearly on the Title Page.

Authorship

  • All listed authors must have significantly contributed to the study.
  • Practices such as guest (gift) authorship, ghost authorship, or exclusion of rightful authors are unethical and strictly prohibited.
  • Authorship must be declared in line with the journal’s Authorship Criteria.

Redundant or Duplicate Publication

  • Submitting multiple papers based on the same dataset or project without clear justification is not considered appropriate.
  • Authors should refrain from creating fragmented or sliced publications.

Plagiarism and Citation Practices

  • All sources must be appropriately cited.
  • Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, citation manipulation, and excessive self-citation are considered serious ethical violations.
  • Authors must ensure accurate representation of others' work and ideas.

Data Integrity and Fabrication

  • Data must not be fabricated, falsified, or misrepresented in any way.
  • Authors may be asked to submit raw data or supplementary materials to ensure transparency.
  • All presented results should be accurate, verifiable, and ethically obtained.

Ethics Approval

  • Studies involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must obtain ethics committee approval prior to data collection.
  • Authors must clearly state in the Methods section and on the Title Page:
    • Name of the ethics committee
    • Approval date
    • Ethics approval number
  • Any personal data must be anonymized in compliance with data protection standards.

Conflict of Interest

  • Authors are required to disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that could affect the objectivity of the research.
  • If no conflicts exist, a statement declaring the absence of conflict must be included on the Title Page.

Corrections and Retractions

  • If authors discover an error in their published or under review manuscript, they must promptly notify the editorial office.
  • The journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions following COPE guidelines if needed.

Editorial Authority

  • The editorial board reserves the right to reject, retract, or withdraw a manuscript at any stage if ethical misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, undeclared conflict of interest) is discovered.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers are expected to maintain the highest standards of editorial integrity in line with COPE's Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Editors Must:

  • Ensure fair, impartial, and timely decisions based on scholarly merit.
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial process.
  • Ensure the integrity of peer review, including preventing manipulation or bias.
  • Respond promptly to ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct.

Reviewers Must:

  • Respect the confidentiality and anonymity of the review process.
  • Declare any conflicts of interest and decline to review when appropriate.
  • Provide constructive, respectful, and unbiased feedback.
  • Avoid using submitted materials for personal advantage or research.
  • Inform the editorial team if they suspect plagiarism, unethical conduct, or duplicate submission.

Retraction Policy

Pedagogical Perspective follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines for manuscripts found to involve serious ethical breaches, such as:

  • Plagiarism
  • Data falsification
  • Undisclosed authorship issues
  • Multiple or duplicate submissions
